A minimap in the margin

For long pages: a miniature of the whole page in the right margin with a window showing where you are. Drag the window, or click elsewhere on the map.

My own idea, known from code editors

  • The whole page at onceHeadings, images, quotes and code are drawn as their own shapes, so you can see the rhythm of the page and find an image you remember.
  • Drag and jumpThe window drags like a scrollbar. A click beside it jumps there.
  • Where am IWhen the pointer is over the map, a label shows the name of the section under it.
