Prototypes QuoteworksP10 · Document generator

A quote, written as a PDF and a DOCX

Fill in the quote once. The PDF embeds the typeface, so it looks the same everywhere and its text can be selected and searched. The DOCX opens in Word and Pages. The browser writes both files, and nothing is sent to a server.

How Quoteworks is built
  1. The quote is laid out on A4 pages in points: the head, the client, a table whose head repeats on every page, the totals and the notes. Long descriptions wrap by the width of each word in the typeface.
  2. The PDF writer embeds each face as a TrueType subset with a map back to the characters, so copying a line gives its words back, including æ, ø and å.
  3. The DOCX is the same quote as paragraphs and tables. Word uses the typeface by name, so it shows when the typeface is installed; the PDF carries it inside.
  4. The PDF and DOCX writers come from Zibaldone’s manuscript export. The typeface files are read and cut down in the browser.
